VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(December 15 , 2011) – Viridian Power Corporation today announced that Billy Peacock has resigned as Vice-President and Operations Manager of the Company effective December 15, 2011.

Mr. Peacock stated, "Viridian Power has recently been focusing its energies on commercial electrical, alternative energy and future installation opportunities which is a great departure from our initial event electrical service. The Board of Directors and I have agreed that it would be an appropriate time for me to step down as an executive of the Company. I have had an exciting and enjoyable time at Viridian Power over the last few years as we created a major company, providing temporary power services to the entertainment industry from a small electrical contracting business."

December 2009 - After last year’s successful collaboration, Viridian has again partnered up with Aggreko, providing all necessary electrical permitting for the Games. By Christmas, we had over 60 electricians working with Aggreko teams at all the Olympic venues in Vancouver and Whistler.

Molson Canada Hockey House 2010

The Molson Canadian Hockey House was the celebrity hotspot throughout the Winter Games with visits by actors Michael J. Fox, Donald Sutherland, Wil Arnett, Seth Myers, Eric McCormack, Vince Vaughn, Steven Colbert, Canadian medal winners Jon Montgomery, Maelle Ricker, Mike Robertson, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir.

A stroll through the Hockey House at any given time could result in a face to face encounter with many of Canada’s hockey ‘legends’ while US gold medal winners and Team Canada members could be seen conversing with the likes of Wayne and Walter Gretzky.

As well as large video screens showing all the hockey action from the Games, nightly world class entertainment featured performances by The Sam Roberts Band, Bryan Adams, BNL, Colin James, Tom Cochrane, Randy Bachman, Great Big Sea and many other hot Canadian acts.

The temporary tent structure that would house the MCHH during the Olympics was a staggering 65,000 square feet. This was initially the largest free span tent in North America. Concerns over a possible large snow load ultimately required additional support posts to be installed as a precaution. This massive tent required 2.1mW of heating provided by Viridian.

Viridian Power provided all the power and heating requirements of MCHH by using a combination of clean hydro electric power from one of our 2.0mVa substations and back-up/ auxiliary generator supplied power.

The installation included over 25,000 feet of primary feeder cable installed under the structure and an additional 10,000 feet of distribution cabling throughout the venue.

Viridian provided  full time electricians on site during the Games to ensure that the system operated flawlessly.

Holland Heineken House 2010

During the last 10 Olympics Games, the Holland Heineken House has been the traditional ‘home away from home’ for the Dutch sporting world throughout the Olympic Games and is hosted by NOC*NSF (Netherlands Olympic Committee). Once again, it was widely regarded as the ‘hottest place in town’ during the Olympics and welcomed over 120,000 visitors during its 18 days of operation.

The site was near the Richmond Olympic Oval in the 5000 square meters of the Minoru Arenas. The arenas were completely transformed for the 18 days of operation with the addition of a restaurant, several food outlets, clothing and merchandise areas, a special athletes room, VIP facilities for members of the Dutch Royal family and government officials, a full gym for the athletes to train, a business lounge for partners and suppliers of the NOC*NSF and facilities for Dutch media. The setup included a complete mobile kitchen from the Netherlands capable of feeding the 300 person crew – including more than 170 volunteer Dutch crew members. A Dutch radio station broadcasted live from HHH during the entire event and a live satellite feed was also available 24/7 to the Netherlands. The highlight of the Holland House experience was the main hall which featured celebratory medal ceremonies for the 8 Dutch Olympic wins and nightly performances by renowned Dutch artists and DJ’s.

Initial requirements for Holland Heineken House included over 2mW of power at six different voltages and different frequencies making this setup one of the most interesting projects Viridian undertook during the Olympics. One of the largest challenges we faced was the substantial amount of European equipment that HHH was bringing from the Netherlands. The use of this equipment in Canada required that Viridian obtain special permission to do so. This process alone required nearly three months work to acquire the necessary documentation and ultimately receive the variance to utilize this equipment. Special electrical equipment and cabling was then manufactured to Canadian standards to feed this equipment. Two synched 500kW generators from Aggreko were used to generate the 230/400V at 50hz providing uninterrupted European power for the kitchens, cash points, vendors and bar equipment. Viridian provided a 1.5mW substation to take advantage of BC’s clean hydro-electric power to satisfy the needs for 600kW of HVAC, 550kW of stage lighting, audio, video and miscellaneous power drops.

Viridian also imbedded two full-time, on site electricians for the daily 20 hours of operation to help ensure that the Holland Heineken House was again the ‘place to be’ during the Olympics.
