The summer of 2008 was a busy one: we provided crew to supply, install and monitor all electrical for the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, the Rexall Edmonton Grand Prix, the inaugural Pemberton Music Festival and the North American Indigenous Games 2008. These events required a crew of twenty electricians simultaneously working for an entire month. Viridian met this challenge full-on and executed all projects flawlessly.
July 2008– Rexall Edmonton Grand Prix Powered by Viridian
Viridian Power was the official power supplier for the 2008 Rexall Edmonton Grand Prix again this summer in Edmonton. To supply all the temporary power requirements for a world class event of this magnitude required a team from Viridian Power working over 1600 hours to install over 100 kilometers of cable, numerous transformers and dozens of distribution panels being fed from two portable substations capable of providing nearly 4 million watts of clean, hydro power!
July 2008 – Viridian Powers the Pemberton Festival
Viridian Power provided all temporary power and site lighting for the first Pemberton Music Festival. The Pemberton
Festival was held outside Pemberton, BC in July and featured dozens of musical acts including Coldplay, Tom Petty and the
Heartbreakers, Jay-Z and Canada's own Tragically Hip. With an audience of over 40,000 people for the three-day event, organizers had to create a self-contained "city" on a vacant 360 acre parcel of land. Viridian Power was chosen to provide clean, hydroelectric power for the site which included three concert stages, camping facilities for thousands, dozens of food vendors, site lighting and even an onsite field hospital.
Winter 2008
Viridian was busy over the winter providing local electricians and electrical workers for one of our strategic partners Aggreko, for many Olympic test events. These test events were held at several of the future Olympic venues around Vancouver and Whistler. We look forward to expanding this successful partnership with the official supplier of temporary power as we head into the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
February 2009
February saw us spending a lot of time at the fabulous new Richmond Olympic Oval. This was the site of the VANOC “One Year Countdown” celebration marking one year to the 2010 Winter Olympics.
We also provided power and distribution for the Richmond Winterfest at this same site in February. Other events we powered included the 2009 Boat Show and Surrey Winterfest.
Summer 2009 - was again highlighted by some of our favourite annual events. July saw us back in Edmonton successfully installing and monitoring all the temporary power requirements of the Rexall Edmonton Indy on the City Centre Airport site as well as Canada Day at Canada Place in Vancouver, Golden Spike Days in Port Moody, The Vancouver Folk Music Festival, numerous concerts, sporting events, corporate and private functions throughout the Lower Mainland.
Fall 2009 - leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympics, Viridian Power has been selected as the exclusive providers of power to The Molson Canada Hockey House, The Holland Heineken House, The Bell “Ice Cube” Pavillion, Place de Francophonie, The Saskatchewan, Alberta and Quebec Pavillions.
September 2009 - The tremendous amount of power required by the 2010 Winter Olympics had Aggreko again teaming up with Viridian to design, manufacture and install over 130 service entrance enclosures throughout Vancouver and Whistler. These unique units provide key points of electrical access to BC Hydro’s clean hydro electric grid for Olympic venues and competitions.
